Bola menggelinding diatas permukaan tanah, fairway lebih sempit dan pendek, lebar antara 4 – 6 meter, dengan panjang antara 30 – 130 meter.

The Origination of Woodball

Woodball was invented in 1990 by Mr. Ming-Hui Weng, he just want to build a garden for his father to take a walk and enjoy the beautiful view in the scenic spot Nei-Shuang-His, where situated in Shih-lin, Taipei City. After mowing the weeds of the hillside, he found that there were terraced fields there, which can be developed as an outdoor exercise place.

It flashed through his mind that he could make a good use of this garden by designing it as a ball-playing ground. Under such motive, he was trying to create a ball sport, in which the playing-ball would not fly up (appropriate to be played on the grass ground) and the sport itself should be economic (neither expensive nor large ground), so that he could invite more friends to enjoy the fun of playing ball in the green field. After two years’ experiment and adjustment, the equipment and the regulation of the ball game have emerged finally as they are today.

From that time on, the ball game is officially named Woodball. The reason that Woodball is popular among the different aged people is not only it has well-designed equipment, which includes ball, mallet and gate, but also it is easy to learn and to play. That is also why Woodball has been adopted as one of the physical education courses in some colleges since after that Woodball begin to introduce and develop to other countries.

Competitive, Leisure, Health and Fun

In March 1990, I found a hillside in Nei-Shuang-Hsi and re-constructed it as the Grand Garden. After uprooting the weeds of the hill, I found lots of terraced fields that can develop as an outdoor exercise place. It flashed through my mind that I could make good use of this garden by designing it as a ball-playing ground, so I decided to turn these terraces into fairways. And moreover I invented a ball set accordingly. With 2 years of experiments and adjustments, the woodball set including a mallet,a ball, and a gate were completed. This ball-playing game is now named as Woodball.

Many friends who came over to play this new sport had showed a fairly high interest and were particularly curious about the origin of its county, and which motivated and encouraged me to set my mind on promoting Woodball as a new sport event internationally. In September 1993, the Chinese Taipei Woodball Association (CTWA) was established. With supports from many teachers and friends, we were not only actively engaged in promotion of Woodball sport in Taiwan, in fact, we have expanded this new sport to many countries. Since 1994, the Woodball teams have traveled to Canada, Europe, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and United States made friends with people from various countries and moreover, Woodball associations were established in respective countries. In 1999 Asian Woodball Federation, European Woodball Federation and International Woodball Federation were formed to govern the national associations at the continental and international stage.

In September 1999, the meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) held in Kuwait has officially accepted and recognized Woodball as a new sport event. In January 2002, the Executive Committee meeting of International University Sports Federation (FISU) held in Italy had given permission to the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation (CTUSF) to host the 1st World University Woodball Championship 2004. Furthermore, in June 2002, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has rewarded a trophy entitled ‘Sport and Well-being’ award to International Woodball Federation.(imageIWbF).

All of those achievements indicated that Woodball sport could bring those who involved a healthy and happy life, most importantly; it was proved again that there can be high qualitative sport invented in Asian countries and we are able to contribute to the World Sports.

The Story Of Woodball

Woodball was invented in 1990 by Mr. Ming-Hui Weng and Mr. Kuang-Chu Young. Originally, they just wanted to build a garden for their parents to take a walk and enjoy the beautiful scene of Nei-Shuang-Hsi, located in Shih-Lin, Taipei, Taiwan.
After mowing the weeds of the hill, they found terraced fields which can be developed as an outdoor exercise place. It flashed through their minds that they could make a good use of this garden by designing it as a ball-playing ground. Under such motivation, they tried to create a ball game, in which the ball does not fly up when playing (ideal for a lawn game) and the sport itself should be economic (neither expensive nor taking large space) so that they could invite more friends to enjoy the fun of play the ball game on the lawn on a regular basis.
After three years' experiment and adjustment, the equipment and the rules of the ball game have, finally, become what they are today. From that time on, the ball game is officially named Woodball. The reason that woodball is popular among people of different ages is not only because that it has well designed equipment including a ball, a mallet and a gate, but also that it is easy to learn and play. That is also why woodball has been adopted as one of the physical education courses in some colleges one year after its appearance. And since 1995, woodball began to be promoted in other countries.

obstacles or boundary line.
3. The outer area of the fairway boundary can be set up as spectators’ area with reference to the natural features.
4. The fairways designed layout plan of the Woodball course should be displayed at the ideal strategic visible
location.
II. Woodball Course Design

3. In principle, the surface of the fairway shall be even and smooth.
4. The fairway is designed to be rectilinear or curvy form in accordance with the natural features of the land.
5. The fairways may be set up with simple obstacles and temporary boundary line.
6. According to the area of the Woodball course, different fairway distances are designed varies from 30 to 130
meters.
7. In the event of the effect of the regional climate or the natural features of the course, the local organizer may
take due circumstances into consideration and make the appropriate local rules but not against the primary spirit
of the Rules.
8. The round string used for fairway boundary line shall be 1 cm diameter in white or yellow color.
III. Specifications of the Woodball Course
1. The fairways shall be maintained regularly, and grass on the fairways shall be mowed closely in advance of
playing.
2. The width of each fairway should be designed in accordance with its natural features, but the narrowest
shall not be less than 3 meters in width, and the widest shall not be more than 10 meters.
3. The length of a fairway, 50 meters and under is termed as short distance, and in between 51 to 80 meters is
termed as medium distance, and between 81 to 130 meters is termed as long distance.

are right-curving fairways.
5. Of the twelve fairways, at least two are short-distance fairways and two are long-distance fairways.
6. The length of the fairways is measured from the central point of the starting line along the fairway center to the
central point of the gate. This length is regarded as the actual distance of each fairway.
7. At the beginning of each fairway shall be set up a horizontal line as the initiating line, which is called
starting line. The line is 2 meters in length and each end of the line draw backwards a line of 3 meters in length
so as to enclose a rectangular area, which is called starting area.
8. At the end of each fairway shall be set up a circular gate area 5 meters in diameter with the gate as its center.
Gate area 5 meters in diameter may not be applied if the geographical features at both sides of the gate have
major terrain obstacles around. Between the rear of the gate area and the fairway boundary keeps a buffer zone
2 meters and more in width.
9. The gate is set up at the center of the gate area and may face any direction of the fairway.
10. The starting area and the gate area shall be even and smooth without any obstacles.
